Africa-Press – Cape verde. The creation of the first interpretation center of the reserve in Chã das Caldeiras and the building of a symbol of biodiversity in the Xaguate roundabout (São Filipe) are the next results of the project to support the implementation of the Reserve.
The information was provided this Wednesday, 9th, by the executive director of Projecto Vitó, Herculano Dinis, at the inauguration of the sign “Fogo, Biosphere Reserve” installed in the Alto Santa Luzia park, close to the São Filipe airfield, considered the first result of the project to support its implementation.
The activities are financed with funds allocated to Cabo Verde by the United Nations, namely the Global Fund for the Environment (GEF) through the small grants program, in a value of 45 thousand dollars and aims to work on the communication aspect to empower civil society on knowledge of the reserve with the aim of making the local community aware of the seal that the island holds.
In addition to the sign, and within the framework of activities to implement the Biosphere Reserve, the Vitó Project has two other actions, placing a symbol of biodiversity in the Xaguate roundabout, which gives access to the port of Vale dos Cavaleiros, and installing it in Chã das Caldeiras, in the headquarters building of the Tourist Guides Association of the first interpretation center of the Fogo Island Biosphere Reserve.
