Fogo: Minister of the Sea promises to take decisions on the Deimos ship “in the coming weeks”

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Minister of the Sea, Abraão Vicente, promised for “the next few weeks” a decision on the Deimos ship, stranded near the port of Vale dos Cavaleiros since November 13, 2020.

Abraão Vicente, who concludes today a three-day visit to the island of Fogo, the first as the Minister of the Sea, said he is aware on the process for dismantling the Deimos Panama ship, 94 meters long, 15 meters wide and 5.5 meters of draught and a capacity for more than three thousand tons of cargo.

“In Cabo Verde we love bureaucratic projects that never end, sometimes the State has to be a little bolder and take measures even if in the future they may go to courts and they sue the State for the decisions taken,” said the Minister of the Sea.

What cannot continue is to have a ship this size still with polluting material on board waiting for the insurance company to give a sign of life or for State institutions to take a decision.
