Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Minister of Tourism and Transport considered that the island of Fogo has “enormous potential” and the Tourism Fund has managed to trigger much of this potential, with the financing of several actions in the three municipalities.
Carlos Santos, who witnessed the signing of two Program Contracts between the Social Sustainability Fund of Tourism and the City Hall of São Filipe, in the total amount of 32.5 million escudos for the requalification of the Presidio Square and Largo de Cruz dos Passos, pointed out as potential of the island its volcano, but also environmental resources, from South to North, and in all the three municipalities.
Carlos Santos stressed that the Government intends to diversify tourism, but in an articulated way with the local government, noting that the Social Sustainability Fund of Tourism was created to requalify cities and give them monuments, but also to look at the environmental issue in partnership with the Environment Fund, among other actions.
The Mayor of São Filipe, Nuías Silva, for his part, called “symbolic” the act of signing the two Program Contracts for the requalification of the mythical Presidio Square, stage of the Municipality Day festivities and an authentic viewpoint on the island and Rombos Islet, and for the requalification of Cruz dos Passos.
