Africa-Press – Cape verde. The creation of a municipal farm and two fields for the production of pasture to support livestock farmers in the years of drought are two projects the City Hall of São Filipe has in its portfolio to improve the livestock sector.
The announcement of these projects was made by the Mayor of São Filipe, Nuías Silva, this Sunday, the 29th, in the location of Monte Grande, on the last day of the first edition of the Cheese Festival, promoted by the local community.
The installation of the municipal farm will be made in partnership with the City Halls of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote (Canary Islands), which will provide goat breed unit, each one consisting of four goats and one goat, for the improvement of the goat breed “in an organized and systematized way” and benefit all livestock farmers in the improvement of their breed.
“We have already signed the agreement and soon the animals should arrive on the island,” said Nuías Silva, noting that the improvement of the breed “is fundamental”, because, he explained, there are livestock farmers with “large numbers” of animals, but with small productive capacity.
