Africa-Press – Cape verde. The President of the Republic arrives on Fogo Island today, where he will preside on Thursday at the closing of the centenary of the elevation of São Filipe to the status of city, celebrated throughout the year 2022.
In a press release, the Presidency of the Republic refers that after an intense program carried out by the City Hall of São Filipe, which began in January 2022, within the framework of the Republic Week, José Maria Neves, as honorary president, will proceed with the closing that coincides with the launch of the cultural magazine “Bila”.
As president of honor, the Head of State refers to the press release, fulfilled, until the date of the centenary, marked on July 12. The commitment signed with the people of Fogo of a regular presence on the island to honor and dignify the celebrations, giving, at the same time, its contribution to the dynamics that one wants to build around local development.
Before the closing ceremony of the centenary, already this afternoon, José Maria Neves makes a series of visits to works in progress, in the city and in the interior of São Filipe. Such as the requalification of the Armand Montrond Cultural Centre, construction of the municipal swimming pool, paving of Avenida Lar de Idosos, eco park of Alto Santa Luzia, requalification of Largo de Cruz dos Passos and Praça do Presídio, reconstruction works of the 5 de Julho stadium, construction of the Jardim Batente school and sports sign (south) and the rehabilitation of the Italian school (north).
