Africa-Press – Cape verde. The São Francisco de Assis Regional Hospital (HRSFA), which serves the populations of the islands of Fogo and Brava, has been without surgery services since September 1st.
The director of the HRSFA, Liziana Barros, told Inforpress that the structure is without a surgeon because the only surgeon was hired through Cuban cooperation and his mission ended at the end of August and he had to return to his country of origin.
“We are waiting for the replacement, we still don’t have a forecast and we don’t know when,” she said, indicating that replacing the surgeon is the responsibility of the central authorities of the Ministry of Health and the replacement can be mobilized via Cuban cooperation or through another modality.
When asked whether the replacement of the surgeon could happen in 2023, Liziana Barros declined to indicate a ‘timing’ because it does not depend on the management of the regional hospital, but on a central level and until then she does not have any answer.
