Africa-Press – Cape verde. The diaspora has always been with Cape Verde at all times, good and difficult, and is very much recognized by everyone in the development process since its formation as a people and a nation, said the Minister of Communities, Jorge Santos.

Jorge Santos, who presided over the opening of a reflection meeting on emigration on Saturday, within the scope of the commemorative program for the Day of Culture and Communities, said that it is “fundamental” to recognize the contribution of communities to the development of the country, especially in the economic and business dimensions and in the promotion of entrepreneurship.

“How to boost remittances and human capital to add value for development is one of the main aspects that must be analyzed in relation to the successful diaspora, which everyone is proud of”, underlines the holder of the Communities portfolio.

Speaking of financial and social remittances, Jorge Santos said that in 2021, for the island of Fogo alone, the inflow of financial remittances from emigrants was three million, 188 thousand escudos and that in the first half of 2022 there is a record of two million inflows and 33 thousand escudos on the island of Fogo.
