Africa-Press – Cape verde. Football/Santiago Sul: Boavista da Praia coach assumes candidacy for the title for the 2023-2024 season

In charge of the capital’s checkered team for two seasons, this time Semedo will have Jailson Andrade (ex-Unidos do Norte) and Tino Costa (ex-Eugénio Lima) as assistant coaches.

“Our objective is to attack the title, last year we came second and this season we want to do better, we are preparing to enter the championship strong”, he said.

The candidacy for the title, according to Edvaldo Semedo, comes from work done by the technical team and management since the end of the last championship with the search for new reinforcements.

“Last season, two weeks before the start of the championship we were still doing sifting training. This year we already have a closed squad since the beginning of the pre-season”, explained the young coach, believing, therefore, that Boavista da Praia has everything it takes to win the regional title, which has been missing since the 2014-2015 season.

Regarding the reinforcements, which include Sunday (ex-Travadores) and Gogol (ex-Académica do Mindelo), he said that the most important thing is unity and work, “to the detriment of the players’ overconfidence and ego”.

The management of Boavista da Praia, chaired by Nivaldo Semedo, also hired Tutusco (ex-Botafogo do Fogo), Wi (ex-Barreirense do Maio), Perry (ex-Figueirense do Maio), Djubamba (ex-Sporting da Boa Vista) , Chibinho and Adonis (Ex-Celtic da Praia) and Edywan (Ex-Esperança da Calheta).

“We have a group of good players, with and without the ball, and we are working to strengthen ties, on and off the field. It’s not just the coach, it’s a group working towards the same objective”, concluded Edvaldo Semedo.

Last season, Boavista da Praia ranked second in the Santiago Sul regional football championship, with 49 points, six less than champion Travadores.

The checkered team begins the regional football championship for the 2023-2024 season against Desportivo da Praia.
