Africa-Press – Cape verde. Former President of Finland, Tarja Halonen, visiting Cabo Verde, encouraged the country to continue working on combating gender-based violence (GBV) and ensuring gender equality.

Tarja Halonen, who is also a member of the World Leadership Alliance-Club of Madrid (WLA-CdM), spoke to reporters on the way out of a meeting with the Minister of Family, Inclusion and Social Development, Fernando Elísio Freire, and said that Cabo Verde has already made a journey in this matter that needs to be continued.

“I believe Cabo Verde has already done the basics and knows the way it has to go. You have had the same work as other countries and this requires time, money, human resources, but the path has to be done step by step. We are here to encourage them to continue this work,” she said.

The former Head of State of Finland, who is in Cabo Verde at the invitation of the Cabo Verdean Association to Combat Gender-Based Violence (ACLCVBG), stressed that Cabo Verde has been working the issue of family violence, a problem that exists in all regions, including her country, she highlighted.
