Africa-Press – Cape verde. The president of the National and Democratic Union of Teachers (Sindep) said this Tuesday that “frustration and lack of motivation” are the main reasons for the “high number” of requests for leave without salary of the teaching class.
In statements to Inforpress, Jorge Cardoso was reacting to the publication in the Official Gazette (BO) on Monday 14th of the number of 67 teachers who have been granted unpaid leave for one year.
According to the trade unionist, this situation shows that the teaching profession is “frustrated and demotivated”, leading many to leave the country in search of better conditions abroad. “The teachers who make this kind of request don’t stay in the country, but go in search of other opportunities in other countries,” he said.
He added that this “high wave” of requests for unpaid leave also had to do with reclassifications, the payment of allowances for not reducing working hours, the freezing of career status for several years and, finally, “inflation, which has skyrocketed in recent years”.
