Africa-Press – Cape verde. Journalist Geremias Furtado was reinstated at the Cabo Verdean News Agency – Inforpress, following a reintegration agreement with the new sole manager, Jair Fernandes. It is, he said, a victory for democracy, freedom of expression and all journalists.
“It is a victory for democracy, freedom of expression, for all journalists in Cape Verde, for human rights defenders and all those who are not afraid to express their dissatisfaction and to fight for the improvement of the space where they are inserted”, declared Geremias Furtado, this Monday, when announcing his return to work after being fired, on the 15th.
In the reinstatement agreement, explained Geremias Furtado, the two parties agreed to nullify the contractual termination that took place on February 15, 2023, when the former sole manager, José Vaz Furtado, arbitrarily dismissed the journalist.
Thus, Geremias returns to Inforpress under the same employment contract in which he has been performing his duties since 2018.
“Anxious” to return to the post
O mesmo diz-se, portanto, ansioso para voltar ao posto de trabalho, depois de afastado por uns dias, e continuar dando o seu contributo para o desenvolvimento da agência.
Geremias Furtando, que é também presidente da Associação Sindical dos Jornalistas de Cabo Verde – AJOC, foi demitido após apresentar queixas por alegado assédio laboral, contra o então gestor José Vaz Furtado.
Após a sua demissão, o Governo de Cabo Verde entendeu exonerar José Vaz Furtado do cargo e nomear Jair Fernandes, que até então era presidente do Instituto do Património Cultural – IPC.
