Government acknowledges the need to invest more in human resources to reverse causes of child mortality

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Deputy Secretary of State of the Minister of Health, Evandro Monteiro, acknowledged this Thursday, in Praia, the need to invest more in human resources, including training for doctors and nurses in order to reverse the causes of child mortality.

It also pointed out the need to create policies that allow the decentralization of pediatric and neonatal services “wherever possible”, particularly for islands such as Brava, Maio, São Nicolau and others, enabling periodic travel so that services are a reality for all.

Evandro Monteiro was speaking to the press on the sidelines of the meeting with the International Federation of Family Planning (IPPF) which aims to find out about the country’s progress and challenges in promoting the rights of adolescents and young people, men and women in access to sexual and reproductive health.

“Note that the data show us that the main causes of child mortality in Cabo Verde are extreme prematurity associated with low weight, but also poor formations. To reverse the situation, because they represent almost 60% of mortality, in the first year of life here in Cabo Verde, we must necessarily invest in human resources”, he advocated.
