Africa-Press – Cape verde. The parliamentary group’s leader of the African Independence Party of Cabo Verde (PAICV, opposition party) said in the City of Praia that the Government has had a “cunning talk” on regard the Special Consumption Tax (ICE).
João Baptista Pereira made this statement to journalists, on the sidelines of a visit to the ‘hiace’ vehicle terminal in Sucupira, reacting on the possibility of lowering or canceling this tax, announced this week by the Government.
“On the part of the Government, there have been several conversations, first the Deputy Prime Minister said that the Government is available to change and then a representative of the MpD, in a debate on Radio de Cabo Verde (RCV), confirmed that the 200 thousand escudos were withdrawn because the Government has already found another alternative, and this Wednesday we heard that after all that this increase will continue”, said the MP.
For João Baptista Pereira, the maintenance of this tax is contrary to the expectations of importers of vehicles, especially emigrants, “who are being penalized for the legislative elections results because the MpD did not win in the Diaspora”.
