Government highlights gains achieved on ensuring freedom of the press in Cabo Verde

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Deputy Secretary of State of the Prime Minister, Lourenço Lopes, acknowledged on Tuesday that despite the “ups and downs” moments, the Government has been working on promoting and guaranteeing freedom of the press in Cabo Verde.

Lourenço Lopes made these statements on the sidelines of the national conference to celebrate the World Press Freedom Day, having as its central motto “Journalism under Surveillance” and as the theme “More Freedom and Better Democracy”, promoted today by the Regulatory Authority for the Media (ARC), in partnership with the Cabo Verde National Commission for UNESCO and AJOC.

According to this Deputy Secretary of State, the Executive has privileged dialogue and permanent articulation with professionals of the free press, the public and private sectors, having highlighted that Cabo Verde has over the years gained important positions in the different world rankings.

The Cabo Verdean executive, as he recalled, has taken “measures leading” to greater independence of the media in Cabo Verde since 2016.
