Government Invests 230 Million Escudos in Ribeira Grande Roads

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva stated this Monday in Ribeira Grande de Santiago that the Government will invest 230 million escudos in roads to improve circulation, mobility, and the connection of the municipality to Praia.

During a visit to the rehabilitation and paving works in areas such as Bota Rama, Salineiro, and Calabaceira, the head of government explained that the ongoing investment aims to address a “very large deficit” in terms of accessibility and mobility in Ribeira Grande de Santiago.

According to Ulisses Correia e Silva, the interventions will unlock the areas covered and complete the ring road of Cidade Velha, creating various alternative routes for the circulation and flow of people and goods, in addition to strengthening the connection with Praia, considered fundamental.

The Prime Minister stated that the road constitutes a good investment due to its returns, facilitating the circulation of people and goods and bringing the local economy closer to Praia, also creating the possibility of a future connection to São Domingos, through access to Loura, a project that is currently under development. “It’s a good investment because of the returns, firstly in the circulation of people and goods, and secondly in bringing the economy closer, bringing Ribeira Grande closer to the beach,” he stated.

The official also mentioned that these works are in addition to other ongoing investments in the municipality, namely in renewable energies, with emphasis on the hydroelectric pumping station and the solar park, which place Ribeira Grande de Santiago in a “very good” position for its future and near-term development.

The works cover the areas of Bota Rama, Salineiro and Calabaceira, including the connection to the dam area, and are scheduled for completion in the first quarter of this year.
