The Assistant Secretary of State to the Minister of Health expressed this concern during his Christmas message to patients hospitalized at Agostinho Neto Hospital, considering it a special moment to bring relief to people who are away from their homes and family due to illness. .
Evandro Monteiro said, however, that the Government is aware of the adversities that the country faces and that it works together with the population to progressively overcome this difficulty, convinced that steps will be taken so that the challenges in the current system, in this period of epidemiological transition, are resolved. defeated.
“Now we are in an epidemic phase. These are situations associated with infections, but also the bulk of our current problems in Cape Verde are chronic non-communicable diseases, the main challenges of which are highly complex, whether for diagnosis or for the treatment itself, such as oncology or cardiocirculatory forum”, he explained.
Other challenges highlighted by the governor are those linked to neonatology services, infant mortality, having, however, highlighted that Cape Verde has recorded “significant gains” over the years, to the point of standing out as the African country with the lowest rate of infant mortality and with significant and progressive decreases.
In addition to important investments made in Cape Verde, which resulted in a reduction in the number of evacuations, especially in the area of oncology, and in better diagnosing and treating breast cancer in Cape Verde, Evandro Monteiro urged that new investments be made and each increasingly updated and adapted to the profile of the causes themselves.
From now on, he stressed, we must work above all on prevention, since the country already has regional hospitals capable of radiological, mammographic and biotype studies, decentralized in the structures, although it recognizes the need to provide health structures with more human resources and specialists. in areas such as pathological anatomy.
