Africa-Press – Cape verde. Faced with the armed conflict in Eastern Europe, with the Russian attack on Ukraine, the Government of Cape Verde has helped Cape Verdean students in Russia, and other countries in the conflict zone, with monetary reinforcement of scholarships.
Data from the Secretary of State for Higher Education point to the existence of 43 Cape Verdean students in Russia, 20 in Hungary and six in Serbia, with none in Ukraine.
Taking into account the situation of conflict and humanitarian crisis experienced, Eurídice Monteiro assures that the Government of Cape Verde has provided social assistance to students from Eastern Europe.
Although the scholarships are awarded by the host countries, the government and Ficase have given a monetary boost to complete the scholarship, because of the increased cost of access to food. Suspended sending students to Russia
At the moment, according to Eurídice Monteiro, there are no students expected to leave for Russia for studies and announces the suspension of the process of sending students to the Russian Federation.
“Parents and guardians must be aware that the first responsibility of the State of Cape Verde is to safeguard the security of nationals. We are not going to send anyone to a country in a crisis situation”, he told RCV.
A Secretária de Estado, entretanto, garante que a retoma do envio de estudantes para a Rússia poderá continuar quando a situação estiver estável, tendo em conta a manifestação de interesse da Rússia em atribuir bolsas de estudos a estudantes cabo-verdianos.
