Government Resolves Over 80% Issues for Prison Officers

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Minister of Justice, Joana Rosa, said this Wednesday that the government has already resolved “more than 80%” of the pending issues for prison security officers and guarantees the Career, Functions and Remuneration Plan (PCFR) for the beginning of 2026.

The minister made these statements during the parade of the Prison Officers’ Parade, an activity that is part of the celebrations of Prison Officer’s Day, celebrated for the third time in Cape Verde, emphasizing that the Executive “has done everything” to resolve the remaining issues.

“We have already resolved over 80 percent. Less than 20% remains, and I believe that at the beginning of next year we will be able to finalize the PCFR and, therefore, contribute to the greater satisfaction of all those who are part of the corporation,” she stated.

Joana Rosa also stated that the prison security officers’ corporation is “more motivated and better prepared,” despite still facing some challenges, emphasizing that the Government has been working to resolve all pending issues affecting the sector.

The minister also praised the contribution of all professionals working in the prison system, including the management of the Praia Central Prison, social reintegration technicians, and those responsible for the various services, noting that the work performed by the agents “is fraught with emotions, misunderstandings, and great responsibilities.”

Joana Rosa also announced that this year the awards will also be granted to newly integrated agents, as a way of encouraging and recognizing the “zeal, dedication, and commitment” they have demonstrated.

“Those who are joining will certainly find praise for what they have provided and recognition from the Ministry of Justice,” she emphasized, stressing that dealing with people deprived of their liberty “is not an easy task,” but requires continuous training and strengthening the skills of professionals.

In her speech, the head of the Ministry of Justice highlighted the role of the agents in social reintegration and in reducing criminal recidivism, considering them “fundamental actors” in promoting social peace.

She highlighted that prison security officers are fundamental to further reducing recidivism and combating crime.

The minister also reinforced the appeal for individual responsibility from each professional, stating that the sector’s success depends on everyone’s contribution.

“If everyone does their part, we will have good results and we will be contributing to the satisfaction of Cape Verdeans,” she emphasized.

Joana Rosa concluded by leaving a message of encouragement to prison officers, reminding them that, inside or outside the establishments, “they are always at the service of the State and the Cape Verdean nation.”
