The Cape Verde senior men’s handball team beat Rwanda’s counterpart 52-27 today, in their debut game in the 26th edition of the African Cup of Nations (CAN’2024), taking place in Egypt.In a match counting for the first round of group A, Cape Verde was always ahead on the scoreboard and ended the first half winning 24-13.

In the second half, the national team maintained the same tone and ended the game with a 52-27 victory.

Cape Verde will return to the field on Friday, 19th, to discuss the leadership of group A to face Zambia, who, in this first round, were defeated by DR Congo (40-21)

The third and final game of the Group stage will be against DR Congo, scheduled for January 21st.

According to the regulations of the African Handball Confederation, CAH, the top two in each group advance to the next phase.

B: Egypt (reigning African champion), Guinea Conakry, Cameroon and Congo
C: Morocco, Algeria, Gabon and Libya
D: Tunisia, Angola, Nigeria and Kenya.
