Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Cape Verde Senior Men’s Handball Team won, on the afternoon of this Saturday, 16th, the Moroccan counterpart, by 23-19, qualifying for the Final of the African Cup of Nations (CAN’2022), which has been running since 11 July, in Egypt (North Africa).
In a match referring to the Semi-Finals of the event – says Inforpress -, played in the “International Hall” of Cairo (the Capital City of Egypt), the National Combination, which started very focused on the game, ended the first part winning by 11-9, and in the first ten minutes they had a four-goal lead (5-1).
In the second half, Ljubomir Obradovic’s men managed to keep the lead until the 45th minute, when, for the first time, the Moroccans advanced on the scoreboard (15-14), but soon after, Cape Verde would regain the advantage and win the match 23-19.
Cape Verdean winger Leandro Semedo was considered by the African Handball Confederation (CAHB) the “Man of the Game”. Cape Verde expects, in the Final, to be played this Sunday, 17th, the winner of the confrontation between Egypt – Host Team and Title Champion -, and Tunisia.
CAN’2022 will be played until the 18th, with the participation of 14 African teams. The top five qualify for the 2023 World Cup, to be held in Poland (Eastern Europe), from 12 to 29 January 2023. The Egypt national team defends the title, won in 2020, in the competition held in Tunisia, where Cape Verde ranked fifth.
CAN’2022 was initially scheduled for January this year, in the Kingdom of Morocco, but was postponed by the African Handball Confederation, due to the alleged irregularity in the Draw, held in December 2021.
