Africa-Press – Cape verde. The national senior men’s handball team beat Morocco’s counterpart 31-22 today and is already in the semi-finals of the 26th African Nations Championship taking place in Egypt.

This triumph, in a quarter-final match, qualified Cape Verde directly for the World Cup, to be played next year in Croatia, Denmark and Norway.

It should be noted that the four semi-finalists of the African Championship automatically qualify for the World Cup.

The game that dictated this double feat was marked by balance with Cape Verde finishing the first half winning by 13 -10, but was almost always at a disadvantage on the scoreboard in the first 30 minutes.

In the complementary stage, the national team was stronger and extended the advantage, winning the match by a difference of nine points (31-22) and with Paulo Moreno being considered “Man of Match”.

This is Cape Verde’s third victory over Morocco in four games played between the two teams.

In the semi-finals, Cape Verde, the runner-up team in Africa, awaits the winner of the clash between Algeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo).

The Blue Tubarões, the name by which the Cape Verde teams are known, after winning Group A with a record of victories in the three games played in the first phase, with Rwanda (52-27), Zambia (45-23) and DR Congo (29-22).

Quarter-final matches:

Cape Verde 31 x Morocco 22, Algeria x DR Congo, Egypt x Angola and Tunisia x Guinea-Conakry.
