Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Cape Verdean Handball Federation (FCA) will hold the senior men’s international tournament “CV Handball Cup 2026” from March 19th to 21st in Praia, an event marking the 40th anniversary of the sport in the country.
Speaking to Inforpress, the president of the FCA, Ângela Almeida, explained that the competition will include the national teams of Congo and Angola, in addition to the host country Cape Verde, and the inclusion of the national champion and a Cape Verdean B team in the competitive framework is still under consideration.
According to the official, the tournament is a crucial preparatory event for future international competitions, namely the 2027 World Championship, which will be organized in Cape Verde.
The leader indicated that the initiative will become an annual event, integrating the strategy for the development and popularization of handball at the national level.
“We are meticulously organizing everything and we ask all of Cape Verde to get involved and welcome these athletes with love, because they carry the flag in their hearts,” praised Ângela Almeida, appealing for public support.
As part of the scheduled activities, the senior men’s national team is expected to arrive in the capital on March 15th.
The federation is preparing an official reception at the airport, intending to highlight the team’s recent performance, which has achieved prominent positions on the African continent, including a second place and, more recently, a bronze medal at the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN).
Cape Verde is in Pot 3 for the draw of the 2027 World Handball Championship, alongside teams such as Brazil, Bahrain, Tunisia, and Chile. The official draw for the tournament, which will take place in Germany, is scheduled for June 10th in Munich.
