Africa-Press – Cape verde. The President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, goes to Brussels, Belgium, to participate in the European Development Days, at the invitation of the President of the European Union Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

The Head of State, who was invited to speak at the opening of the meeting, which will take place on the 21st and 22nd of June, will speak on issues related to development in Africa and Small Island States.

The 2022 edition of the European Development Days will have the theme “Global Gateway: building sustainable partnerships for a connected world” and is expected to bring together around 2,500 participants from around the world, including political leaders and representatives of civil society and the private sector.

“Participants will be, together, taking stock of the progress made in the implementation of the Global Gateway strategy and strengthening partnership efforts based on common values ​​and objectives for the realization of ecological, intelligent and inclusive investments”, says the Presidency of the Republic. , in a press release.

The “Global Gateway Strategy” aims to mobilize up to €300 billion of investment by 2027, through a Team Europe approach, which brings together the European Union, Member States, development finance institutions and the private sector.

The event includes a series of high-level panels on the five main themes of the Global Gateway strategy, namely the digital sector, climate and energy, transport, health, education and research.

Meeting with the Cape Verdean community On the sidelines of the event, José Maria Neves should hold meetings with high entities of the European Union and meet with the Cape Verdean community based in Belgium.

The European Development Days, held since 2006, are organized by the European Commission and are the most important international event in the field of development.
