Africa-Press – Cape verde. Dengue fever has just ended its epidemic episode and the President (of INSP) has already made the declaration today that the dengue fever episode has been eliminated for this year,” she told the press on the sidelines of a visit to the National Institute of Public Health.
In turn, the president of INSP, Maria da Luz Lima, warned, however, that it is necessary to continue with preventive measures, since mosquitoes continue to exist and may proliferate again.
“The mosquito continues to reproduce, obviously to a lesser extent, but it is still out there. So if you let your guard down, things can go back to the way they were,” he reiterated.
The first case of this latest Dengue outbreak was recorded in November 2023. In recent months, Dengue has affected several islands in the archipelago and mobilized health authorities to adopt control and prevention measures. In September 2024, however, the Government declared a contingency situation throughout the country, for two months, given the risk of an increase in dengue cases caused by the rains, which at the time totaled 6,000.
The latest Epidemiological Bulletin on February 17 reported 18,734 confirmed cases, 27,935 suspected cases and eight deaths.
