Africa-Press – Cape verde. Projecto Vitó, a non-governmental organization based in Fogo, will start, in the next few days, a campaign to plant a total of 12,000 endemic plants in the highlands of Ilha do Vulcão. This campaign, launched in collaboration with the Natural Park of Fogo, covers five different species, namely cow’s tongue, lantis, wild cloves, chilli chicken and fennel.
According to Inforpress, the beginning of the campaign is due to the rains that have been registered, since last week, in almost the entire island of Fogo.
The endemic plants were produced by the Associação Projecto Vitó, in partnership with the delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and the Associação Desenvolvimento Comunitário de Montado Nacional (Cabeça Fundão-Municipality of Santa Catarina do Fogo), within the framework of the Endemic Plant Conservation Program , called “It’s time for the conservation of Cape Verde’s endangered endemic plants” with a national character, funded by the Swiss foundation, Audemars Piguet.
Endemic plant nursery
It should be noted that, recently, a team from the Program for the Conservation of Endemic Plants, together with another from the Natural Park of Fogo, visited the nursery of endemic plants, having as a backdrop the creation of synergies and the promotion of activities aimed at achieving better results in plant production.
Thus, during the visit, aspects related to the work carried out in the production of the species were addressed, as well as the definition of priority areas for their fixation.
