According to a note from the Government office, the Sal Children’s Emergency Center appears as a vital solution for welcoming children and adolescents in vulnerable situations, including cases of abandonment, mistreatment, neglect and exploitation.
“The main objective is to provide a safe and welcoming environment that simulates, as much as possible, the family environment. In addition to being a protective infrastructure, the center will play a crucial role in preventing youth crime, contributing to the promotion of tourism sustainable and responsible on Sal Island”, he mentions.
As indicated, this project represents a holistic intervention, which combines reception, guidance, social reintegration and psychological care, guaranteeing the stability and recovery of victims. “The center will have a multidisciplinary team, which includes professionals such as psychologists, social workers and educators, supported by an administrative and operational team, prepared to support the children and adolescents in care.”
The same source indicated that the center is capable of receiving up to 30 young people, aged 0 to 17, of both genders. And although located on Sal Island, the center is open to receive children and teenagers from anywhere in the country.
