Africa-Press – Cape verde. A group of emigrants from Pico Agudo, São Nicolau, residing in the Diaspora, inaugurated a section of road of about two kilometers in that locality. The work, budgeted at three thousand contos, was fully financed by the emigrants.

The road is the realization of a local dream, said to Inforpress the emigrant, who is one of the members of the group, João Leonardo.

According to him, through the mobilization of other emigrants, through social networks, they managed to raise around three thousand contos for the construction of the road section.

“It’s a dream come true, I’m very pleased to see this work come to fruition”, he said, stressing that it involved the engagement of “90% of emigrants from Pico Agudo”.

Represents “a lot” for residents

Francisco Soares, who spoke on behalf of the population, praised the completion of the work, which according to him “represents a lot” for the residents.

“Many years ago we expected that the city council or the Government would carry out this work, which did not happen, but today thanks to the commitment of emigrants and the population this road is a reality”, he stressed.

Engagement of the two municipalities

In turn, the mayor of Ribeira Brava, José Martins, praised the population for the initiative, which demonstrates, materialized, their commitment to helping solve the problems of the municipality and the island.

The completion of the work had the support of the two city councils of the island and also of entrepreneurs and private companies of São Nicolau.
