Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Independence Cup, at national team level, will be played in July this year, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of national independence, on the islands of Santo Antão, Sal and Santiago.
The resumption of this national tournament, also known as the Inter-island Tournament, was confirmed during the General Assembly held this Saturday in Praia, where it was decided to hold the two group stages on the islands of Santo Antão and Sal, followed by the “Final Four” in Praia.
The president of the federation, Mário Semedo, recalled that the Independence Cup was born from a government decree, which is why he intends to involve the government, along with other partners such as the 22 municipal councils.
To this end, a Monitoring Committee has already been created, made up of the leaders of the sports regions of Santiago Sul, Santo Antão Sul, Santo Antão Norte and São Nicolau, the FCF Competition Department and the National Arbitration Council.
The FCF will request a meeting with the Government to outline strategies so that the 2025 Independence Cup can be included in the activities commemorating the 50th anniversary of national independence, which will be celebrated on 5 July, so that it becomes a competition worthy of the event.
The occasion was used to hold the draw.
Group A: Sal, Boa Vista, São Vicente, São Nicolau and Fogo Island
Group B: Santo Antão, Maio, Santiago and Brava.
