Africa-Press – Cape verde. The International Theater and Performing Arts Festival (FITAP), organized by the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, runs until the end of the month, uniting Portugal, Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Mozambique and São Tomé and Príncipe through art.
The event, which is in its 10th edition, takes place over 17 days, between May 25th and June 30th, according to a statement from the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD).
There will be “more than 100 activities” across these countries, members of the CPLP (Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries), indicated UTAD.
“The closing will take place at the Mindelo Cultural Center [Cape Verde], on June 30th, with the performance ‘Mar Finito’, by TXON-POESIA – Associação Cultural e Artística”, he added.
According to the Portuguese university, FITAP is promoted from UTAD, “through Mundis – Associação Cívica de Formação e Cultura”.
“Alongside UTAD, universities, professional schools, groups of schools and cultural institutions from Portuguese-speaking countries are emerging”, and “FITAP’s programming, with a strong intervention from UTAD students and alumni, is eclectic and includes lectures and workshops”, he declared.
For the university institution, this project, “very cherished” by itself, “reflects the interest in Portuguese-speaking culture, in different geographies”.
“At UTAD we see art as an aggregating element within our student community with 55 nationalities”, explained rector Emídio Gomes, quoted in the statement.
“The work developed by professor Levi Leonido, and by hundreds of people not only in Portugal, but in Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Mozambique and São Tomé and Príncipe, allows us to have, in this 10th edition of FITAP, a comprehensive of professional and amateur talents in the Lusophony space, which we are very proud of”, according to the rector of UTAD.
FITAP’s international presence is accompanied in different countries by artists whose academic, professional or cultural paths intersect with UTAD, according to the press release.
