Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Cultural Heritage Institute (IPC) announced the opening of a public tender for the concession of the building of the former headquarters of the Boa Vista Finance Department, with the aim of rehabilitation and tourist exploitation.
As explained by the Ministry of Culture and Creative Industries, the building was constructed in the first half of the 19th century and is one of approximately 20 heritage properties transferred by the Ministry of Finance, through the State Heritage Secretariat, under the management of the IPC.
The initiative aims to ensure the recovery and appreciation of this important historical heritage, while promoting tourism and local development.
The concession project is part of a larger program that aims to enhance and reuse state buildings, integrating them into the tourist and sociocultural dynamics of the regions in which they are located.
In addition to preserving heritage, the program seeks to stimulate local economic development, generating new opportunities for the Boa Vista community. It is worth noting that in 2023, the Government, through the General Directorate of Heritage and Public Procurement (DGPCP), decided to transfer the old building that housed the Finance service in Sal-Rei, on the island of Boa Vista, to the Ministry of Culture and Creative Industries, to ensure its rehabilitation, conservation and maintenance.
Building whose architectural characteristics are marked by symmetry, the presence of arches and straight facades, and also the simplicity of the composition, the porticos are of depressed openings, also called “basket-wing arch”, with the windows, two at the ends being Palladian arcades and the three central ones being opened in a continuous balcony or continuous balcony. The roof is made of asbestos with four slopes, a parapet and a mansard roof.
