Israel: Cape Verde co-sponsors project for humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Cape Verde will co-sponsor a draft resolution to increase and monitor resources for humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, the Government announced today.

In a note, the Government of Cape Verde explained that the project called “Scaling Up and Monitoring Aid to Gaza” is still under discussion in the Security Council of the United Nations General Assembly ( UN).

The project presented by the United Arab Emirates “fundamentally aims to channel and operationalize the necessary aid to the population in strict respect for international humanitarian law, in light of the Geneva Conventions and their additional protocols.”

The Government also added that this is a “balanced project, which does not accuse the parties to the conflict, but rather recognizes the efforts undertaken by Israel, Egypt and various UN agencies. The Government hopes that the members of the Security Council will reach an agreement on the text, so that it can be voted unanimously”.

Israel has launched intensive strikes and airstrikes in Gaza since October 7, when Hamas militants broke out of the Gaza Strip and attacked Israeli villages and military posts, killing around 1,400 people and taking 240 hostages.

Israeli bombings in the Gaza Strip have already caused more than 8,500 deaths, according to the Hamas Government.

Israeli forces have also intensified their operations in the West Bank, occupied since the 1967 Arab-Israeli war.
