Africa-Press – Cape verde. Coopermondo, an NGO of the Confederation of Italian Cooperatives, promotes, on Friday, July 1st, in Praia, an international workshop entitled “Dialogues between cooperatives from the south of the world – Building paths for cooperativism in Cape Verde”, within the scope of of the International Day of Cooperatives, which is celebrated annually on the 2nd of July.
The workshop aims to be an opportunity for dialogue, debate and exchange of experiences between cooperative realities in the south of the world, promoting the inclusion of Cape Verde in the international network of cooperativism and the social economy.
According to a statement sent to this newsroom, the initiative will have the online participation of guests from Colombia, Guatemala, Brazil and Mozambique, and the presence of people, entities and institutions linked to the world of entrepreneurship and the promotion of employment and the solidarity economy.
“The Workshop wants to encourage and feed the debate around the theme of cooperativism and the social and solidarity economy in Cape Verde and a new model of Cape Verdean cooperative company, capable of responding to the real needs and opportunities of the context”, explains Coopermondo .
Participants in the workshop will be focused on analyzing the key role that cooperatives can play in promoting women’s empowerment, creating fair employment and developing actions to mitigate the effects of climate change, and to value cultures, of identities and territories.
The same also happens within the scope of the project “Terra de Valor: Innovation and Inclusion of Women and Young People in Agrifood Value Chains in Cape Verde in a Participatory Way”, financed by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) and implemented by Coopermondo and Cospe, in partnership with several national organizations.
International Day of Cooperatives This year’s celebration marks the 100th International Day of Cooperatives since its first recorded celebration, the 27th International Day of Cooperatives since its recognition by the United Nations and a decade since the International Year of Cooperatives in 2012.
CoopsDay’s objective is to raise awareness among cooperatives and promote the movement’s ideals, such as international solidarity, economic efficiency, equality and world peace.
Coopermondo is the NGO of Confcooperative, the Confederation of Italian Cooperatives, which brings together and represents eight national federations in the sector: agriculture and fisheries, housing, credit, consumption, culture, tourism, sport, work, solidarity and health. It is currently present in Africa, Latin America and Europe.
