Africa-Press – Cape verde. Cape Verdean artist Joaquim Semedo opened this Friday, in Madeira, Portugal, the exhibition “Nôs Origem”, which portrays the life and culture of Cape Verde, and marks the 50th anniversary of national independence.

In an interview with Inforpress, Joaquim Semedo said he was pleased with his work, which includes 21 pieces, and represents “an invitation to immerse oneself in the Cape Verdean soul, with colors that enhance the view and represent windows to everyday life”.

The artist described that the canvases also reveal traditions, landscapes and, above all, the essence of the Cape Verdean people, expressed in striking features.

“It brings to light central elements of Cape Verdean culture, such as batuku, an ancestral women’s dance, the preparation of the traditional cachupa, a symbol of the Cape Verdean table, and the representation of the struggle for independence, highlighting the face of Amílcar Cabral,” mentioned the author.

According to Joaquim Semedo, the exhibition represents a unique opportunity for the Madeiran public and visitors to explore the depth of Cape Verdean culture.

With free entry, this activity proposes a sensitive and profound journey into the cultural roots of the Cape Verdean people, through works that portray their traditions, struggles and identity.

Joaquim Semedo has a consolidated career and exhibitions held on several national and international stages, and is recognized for his ability to capture Cape Verdean identity in an authentic and moving way.

The exhibition will be on display at the Baltazar Dias Palace, in the city of Funchal, until the 28th of this month.
