Africa-Press – Cape verde. On Sunday evening, February 2nd, writer Jorge Carlos Fonseca participated in an open conversation dedicated to literature, writing, and reading, in which he shared his reflections on the role of literature and his writing processes.
Jorge Carlos Fonseca spoke to Inforpress after the event, which took place in the Noble Hall of the Brava Island City Hall, as part of the activities of the Seven Suns, Seven Moons festival. He discussed the relevance of books and poetry.
During the meeting, he addressed his thoughts on literature, his writing processes, and the sources of literary inspiration, particularly poetry. He suggested that the city council sponsor a literary prize.
As the writer explained, the prize would serve to stimulate literary creation—poetry, novels, essays, short stories, chronicles—and could be aimed at residents of Brava Island, but also those residing on other islands or in communities abroad.
“The idea is to not leave the island out of the circuits, the books, the literary scene, the things that happen in the realm of literature and poetry, and that is why I always bring books, and I have also presented books in the municipality,” he emphasized.
The former President of the Republic stressed that his idea is also, within his area of expertise, to help the island participate and be present in what may happen that is important and relevant in the field of literature in Cape Verde.
