Africa-Press – Cape verde. Businessman Jorge Spencer Lima was elected, on Friday afternoon, 08, in Sal, as the new president of the Cape Verde Tourism Chamber, in an election that had a single list.
The single list was unanimously elected by the 364 votes cast, with no votes against or abstentions, results that for the new president of the Board of Directors of the Tourism Chamber are a sign of confidence around this new team, according to Inforpress.
The new governing bodies have elements from the various islands of the country, which shows a “clear sign” of the new management in the sense of having associates throughout the archipelago.
In a first reaction, Jorge Spencer Lima, “Scapa” as he is also known, qualifies the elected list as “a list of consensus and continuity” and promised to work together with the Government and with all partners for the recovery of the tourist sector. and the country’s economy.
“We try to make a consensus list, but above all we try to convey the trust of the associates in our list. This unanimity in the vote shows that the Chamber of Tourism is alive and they know what they want and expect from this new direction, in a sector that is extremely important for Cape Verde”, he commented.
tourism must be duly recognized
For the newly elected president of the Chamber of Tourism, the sector, which contributed 25% to the national GDP, “cannot be underestimated, ignored or treated as another secondary actor” in the country’s economic life, and must be “properly recognized” in the economic system.
“But above all, that the gains of this sector are distributed to all Cape Verdeans, but that it also serves to strengthen the companies and their workers that make a strong contribution to the improvement of the system in Cape Verde”, he stressed.
Considering that the economy in Cape Verde, for a long time to come, will continue to depend on tourism, Scapa understands that it is up to companies and associates in this area to work and make their contribution to strengthening the economy and the economic situation of the country.
“We are coming out of an extremely difficult moment that the country and the world are still going through, where we all suffer, there is a lot of talk about the recovery, the recovery is still on its way, but we are far from the values of 2019. Therefore, we have a long way to go, which will only be possible if there is the contribution of all”, pondered the businessman, calling for unity in this recovery and affirmation of Cape Verde, to get out of this “economic doldrums”.
proposals
The construction of the headquarters of the Chamber of Tourism, the implementation of a tourist training center that serves the islands of Sal and Boa Vista and the “strong” bet in the field of Culture, are some of Spencer Lima’s proposals during his term.
