Judicial Police and Union Clarify New Statute Situation

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The National Directorate of the Judiciary Police (PJ) and the Union Association of Judiciary Police Employees (ASFIC) issued a joint statement this Wednesday to clarify recently circulated information regarding the approval process of the institution’s new Statute.

In response to news reports alleging discontent among employees and the possibility of demonstrations, the entities emphasize that the approval process for the new Statute is in its final phase and has been conducted transparently and collaboratively between the Ministry of Justice, the National Directorate of the PJ, and the class’s union association.

According to the clarification, the proposed revision of the Statute—an initiative of the Ministry of Justice—has already undergone technical adjustments resulting from opinions from the Public Administration and is currently awaiting binding opinions from the Ministries of Public Administration and Finance, a step that precedes formal approval.

The new Statute foresees significant improvements for the workers of the Judicial Police, namely an increase in the base salary, greater flexibility in access to and progression in their careers, enhanced access to management positions, in accordance with the organizational structure of the Judicial Police, and improvements to life insurance and work accident insurance schemes.

The National Directorate of the Judicial Police also highlights that the Ministry of Justice is developing the Career, Functions and Remuneration Plan (PCFR), which will cover not only the Judicial Police, but also Registrars, Notaries, Registry Assistants, Prison Security Agents and Social Technicians.

In the statement, the National Directorate and ASFIC reaffirm the joint commitment of the Minister of Justice, the National Director of the Judicial Police and the President of the Trade Union Association to the swift approval of the new Statute, recognizing “the importance and fairness of this instrument for the professionals of the Judicial Police”.

The organizations also appeal for understanding, serenity, and institutional unity from all employees, reinforcing that this is “a common cause, conducted with responsibility and a sense of mission.”

“The approval of the new Statute depends on the commitment and collaboration of everyone — the Board, the Union, the Ministry of Justice, and PJ employees — in a joint struggle to guarantee the rights, recognition, and working conditions that the profession deserves,” the statement concludes.
