Junior World Swimming Championship: Cape Verde breaks national record in the mixed 4×100 meter freestyle relay event

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Cape Verdean athletes at the Junior World Swimming Championships taking place in Israel since September 4th, broke the national record in the mixed 4×100 meter freestyle relay race, held this Wednesday, September 6th. Tiago Cardoso, Aristeias Coutinho, Denil Monteiro and Mayara Ramos improved by 36 seconds the time they achieved last August at the Zone II African Junior Championship.

The athletes representing Cape Verde also reduced other marks, and in series I of the men’s 50 meter freestyle competition, Denil Monteiro improved the mark he had achieved in the past African Junior Championship of Zone II by more than a second, obtaining a time of 00’29′′17.

In turn, Tiago Cardoso improved his time from the last Junior National Championship by more than a second and a half, achieving a time of 00’37′′09.

In the women’s 100 meter freestyle, Aristeias Coutinho improved her time by 7 seconds and Mayara Ramos also improved by 7 seconds.

Remember that Cape Verde is represented at the Junior World Swimming Championships, taking place in Israel, by the following athletes selected by the Cape Verdean Swimming Federation.

– Aristeias Coutinho – athlete from Cidade da Praia (50, 100 and 200 meters)

– Denil Monteiro – Académico athlete from the island of Sal (50, 100 meters freestyle and 100 meter butterfly)

– Mayara Ramos – Académico athlete from Ilha Sal (50 and 100 meter freestyle and 50 meter backstroke)

-Tiago Cardoso – athlete from Cidade da Praia (50 and 100 meters breaststroke and 50 meters)

Athletes aged between 14 and 17 years old (females) and 15 to 18 years old (males) participate in the Junior World Swimming Championships. This is the 9th edition of the event, taking place in Israel from the 4th to the 9th of September.
