In this 13th edition, the Kriol Jazz Festival aims to attract the academic community to the event, giving them the possibility of participating in the Festival with a special package, at a reduced price. With this in mind, the organization will present in two special sessions at universities in the city of Praia, the origins, history, path and impact of the Kriol Jazz Festival on the Cape Verdean, African and world cultural panorama, announced the organization of the event.

The sessions will take place at the Instituto Superior de Ciências Económicas e Sociais – ISCEE and at the Praia Campus of the University of Santiago, both universities in the city of Praia, on April 1st and 3rd, respectively.

According to the note that Asemanaonline had access to, the sessions will be attended by the general director of Hormania, lda, producer of the festival in partnership with the Municipal Council of Praia, Djô da Silva, inviting students and the academic community for a trip about the history and impact of the Kriol Jaz Festival.

“In 2024, the festival is particularly committed to the inclusion of the student and young community, having created a special package, with a reduced price (2 thousand escudos per day and 3 thousand escudos for two days), for its luxury program. These sessions are part of a desire to bring KJF closer to new generations”, reads the note.

On April 1st, at 5pm, the Kriol Jazz Festival will be performed at ISCEE’s Pólo Universitário da Praia.

On April 3rd, at 5:30 pm, it will be the turn of the Praia Campus of the University of Santiago, which, in addition to the session, according to the same source, will also feature a musical moment on the Campus’s panoramic terrace, with the special performance by singer Jennifer Solidade, accompanied by musician Hernani Almeida.

“An excellent opportunity to get to know closely the work and vision behind the event that has contributed, throughout its 13 editions, to project the city of Praia and Cape Verde into the global cultural and tourist panorama”, they reflect.

It is worth remembering that the Kriol Jazz Festival 2024 returns to the city of Praia on the 4th, 5th and 6th of April, bringing more than 50 national and international artists, with emphasis on the renowned Salif Keita (Mali), Hermeto Pascoal (Brazil) and Steven Coleman (USA), where around 1,500 people are expected at Praça Luís de Camões, in the city of Praia.
