Africa-Press – Cape verde. The PAICV candidate for the Municipal Council of São Domingos in the elections of December 1st presented this Sunday a set of proposals for the development of the municipality, with the aim of transforming and boosting it in the coming years.
Isaias Varela, who is paired with Felismina Moreno (assembly), was speaking during the public presentation of the lists of PAICV candidates for the local government bodies in São Domingos.
The candidate of the party that manages the local government of São Domingos highlighted the importance of investing in human resources, education, housing, health and culture, with a view to improving the quality of life of the residents and strengthening the local economy.
He stressed that his first measure, if elected, will be to update salaries, with a “significant increase”, going from 16,300 escudos to 19,000 escudos, with the Career, Functions and Remuneration Plan (PCFR).
“Our goal is to reach 20,000 escudos, because we believe that human resources are the basis for the development of any organization,” he stated.
The candidate also highlighted the importance of continuing to invest in education, with special attention to school transport.
“We are aware of the difficulties families have in covering the costs of school transport. Therefore, we are going to reduce the price from 1,200 escudos to 800 escudos, making it more affordable for everyone,” explained Isaías Varela, adding that around 1,200 school kits will be distributed to families in vulnerable situations.
Regarding kindergartens, Isaías Varela announced the rehabilitation of infrastructure and the creation of new services, such as a nursery to support families.
“We are going to create four pilot projects, extend the opening hours of kindergartens and ensure that all parents can work with peace of mind, knowing that their children are well looked after,” he highlighted.
The candidate addressed the “urgent need” for social housing programs, committing to rehabilitate 400 homes of needy families, with the “Nha Casa, Nha Sossego” project.
Isaías Varela also promised to make lots available to young people who want to settle in the municipality, facilitating access to housing at “affordable prices”, and to work in partnership with private institutions to bring new housing solutions to São Domingos.
In the area of health, he proposes strengthening partnerships with private hospitals in Cape Verde and Senegal, in collaboration with the Praia City Council, to offer better conditions and dignity to evacuated patients.
The candidate also committed to maintaining and expanding São Domingos’ cultural agenda, with the four annual festivals already consolidated, and to completing the Culture and Art Center.
“Culture is one of the pillars of our municipality. We want to transform São Domingos into a cultural landmark in the country and ensure that all young people have access to a space where they can develop their artistic skills”, noted Isaías Varela.
Isaías Varela concluded his presentation by stating that his vision for São Domingos is that of a more inclusive, sustainable and modern municipality.
“With these proposals we will ensure that São Domingos is a better place to live, work and grow. Our mission is to transform our municipality and provide all residents with the necessary conditions to reach their full potential”, he concluded.
In turn, the head of the PAICV list for the municipal assembly, Felismina Moreno, who is running for her own successor, said she is prepared to continue the work that the council has been doing, ensuring that they will continue to look after the interests of the municipality with more social projects that contribute to its development.
In addition to Isaias Varela, Hipólito Gonçalves, who is leading the MpD list, is running for mayor of São Domingos.
