Low cost flights to Cape Verde via Portugal among cooperation priorities

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The government intends to complete the review of the air agreement with Portugal, so that the archipelago can start receiving flights from low-cost companies through Portuguese territory, Cape Verdean Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva announced Saturday.

“We have triggered a review process of the current air agreement, we just need ratification in parliament” for the process to continue, said the government leader, in a joint press conference with the new Portuguese Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, visiting the archipelago.

The change “will allow Cape Verde to start receiving low cost flights from Portugal and this is important for boosting our tourism”, explained the Government leader.

The topic is among the priorities in the relationship between the two countries, which today announced the holding of the next bilateral summit on November 19, in Portugal.

Cape Verde’s hotel establishments welcomed one million guests in 2023, a new record, in line with the sector’s growth trend.

The entry of low-cost companies into the archipelago was discussed last year, along with the handover of the airport service concession to the multinational Vinci, which also operates in Portugal and is preparing to begin requalifying Cape Verde’s main airports.
