The Lusófona University of Cape Verde will hold the first International Conference on Climate Change and Environmental Education on April 24th and 25th in São Vicente. The objective is to explore the impact of climate change in the context of Portuguese-speaking countries.
In a press conference held this Monday, the pro-rector, Elisa Silva, highlighted that the main objective of the meeting is to explore the phenomenon of climate change in an interdisciplinary way, in the relationship between the global and the local.
“[The theme] raises fundamental questions such as the relationship between the global north and south, between humans and non-humans, new forms of life, environmental education, ecological, technological and political futures, mitigation and adaptation strategies, international cooperation, public policies, local knowledge and native cosmologies.”
The conference will be held in a hybrid format, with in-person and online participation of international experts.
Over the course of two days, eleven topics will be covered, including the cultural dimension of climate change, sustainable tourism, public policies, and the use of technologies in educational contexts.
The opening ceremony will be presided over by the President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, and the closing ceremony will be presided over by the Minister of the Sea, Jorge Santos.
