Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Prime Minister will preside on Monday, the 3rd, in Mindelo, over the opening of the 8th edition of Cabo Verde Ocean Week (CVOW), which will run until Friday, the 7th, under the motto “The ocean connects peoples”.
According to a government statement cited by Inforpress, the 2025 edition of CVOW will bring together technicians, researchers, policymakers, the private sector, environmentalists, coastal communities, and international partners in a forum for dialogue and joint action for the protection and sustainable use of the ocean.
“The event’s central objective is to raise awareness about the strategic importance of the oceans, promote ocean literacy, the sharing of best practices, and the strengthening of a sustainable blue economy, combining innovation, scientific knowledge, digital governance, and social impact,” the statement says.
Still on the island of São Vicente, Ulisses Correia e Silva will also preside over the launch ceremony of the West African Sustainable Oceans Programme (WASOP) on Tuesday, the 4th.
According to the same source, the WASOP project, funded by the European Union with 59 million euros, aims to strengthen the protection and conservation of the marine environment and promote the sustainable and integrated use of ocean resources in West Africa, stimulating inclusive economic growth.
According to the funding entity, the program also addresses the factors of degradation of natural ocean resources and climate change that exacerbate social, economic and environmental tensions in West Africa and is composed of three pillars, the first being “Ocean Governance”, the second “Sustainable and Inclusive Blue Economy” and the third “Ecosystem Protection and Restoration”.
