Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Minister of the Sea, Abraão Vicente, assured today that all workers’ rights will be safeguarded with the sub-concession of port services, the process of which is ongoing.
The governor was reacting in this way to some concerns that have been raised by dockers at Porto da Praia, who have revealed “some fear” regarding working conditions and, above all, wages.
“The process of sub-concession of port services is necessarily a complex process, at a financial, economic level and in terms of choosing partners”, he stated, adding that it is still at a very early stage in which all information is being passed on to the class of stevedoring.
But, according to Abraão Vicente, the fact that the country is experiencing a pre-election period, and being a candidate for local councils, there have been people who are “not interested in full clarification” of this matter.
“Clearly there are people trying to create noise among the stevedore workers”, accused the minister, warning that the processes do not mix and that this warning is aimed at people understanding that there is good faith in the process, and for the good of the company , of Enapor’s own workers and employees.
“Therefore, what I want here is to eliminate any shadow of doubt, that the process is being conducted smoothly and that the class representatives will be heard in the most thorough process possible so that there are all possible agreements in this process” , he assured.
Abraão Vicente also reinforced by stating that with the sub-concession of airport services there will be no loss of rights or loss of jobs, but that it will be a beneficial process for the dockers themselves.
