Minister points to health issues and family reunification as the main reasons for leaving teachers

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Minister of Education, Amadeu Cruz, said today that the departure of teachers, due to salary leave, is mainly related to health issues, family reunification abroad and other reasons considered legitimate.

When approached by journalists, outside a public event, about the publication of the list of 67 teachers who have requested unpaid leave this year and the consequent reaction of the unions, who claim that teachers are leaving due to demotivation, Amadeu Cruz said that he respects the unions’ opinions, but that he doesn’t agree that there are frustrations.

He pointed out that teachers are free, stressing that the Ministry of Education has to respect workers’ rights, which are in the labour code, on the one hand, and in the teaching career statute, on the other.

“Young people are free and should seek their satisfaction as much as possible”, he said, indicating, on the other hand, that the Ministry of Education has sought to fulfill its duties in order to maintain a regulated teaching career.
