Africa-Press – Cape verde. For Fernando Elisio Freire, Minister of the Family, Inclusion and Social Development, Cape Verde is on a “good path” in the fight against Gender-Based Violence. The same highlights the increase in complaints and the action of the authorities and the media, in the fight against crime.
Despite recognizing that there are challenges to overcome, Fernando Elisio Freire points to gains in the Cape Verdean struggle against GBV. “Estamos num bom caminho, mas a luta pela igualdade do género em Cabo Verde tem ainda alguns desafios, temos ainda uma faixa da nossa população que ainda, culturalmente, não consegue ver a questão da igualdade do género como uma questão natural”, concretizou Fernando Elísio Freire.
Para o ministro, o número de detenções por VBG, que se tem verificado nos últimos dias, mostra que “há mais denúncias” e que as autoridades “estão a punir” os agressores. Freire defende um “trabalho forte” no combate a este crime que passa, segundo diz, por educar meninas e rapazes dentro das famílias e nas escolas.
