Africa-Press – Cape verde. The artist MC Acondize performs next Friday, May 10th, and for the first time at the São Filipe festivities, in the community of Sumbango, in the municipality of Mosteiros.
The partygoer from São Filipe, the emigrant to the United States Casimiro Monteiro, told Inforpress that the artist will perform at the dance on Friday, but announced performances by other artists, groups and DJs for three nights of dancing as part of the festivities.
Vávu and band, group from Mosteiros Trás, Dimas, Wilson Almeida, Rubem Teixeira, Jonathan and Taylor are on the festivities lineup in addition to MC Acondize, but also with the participation of a DJ group.
The festival of São Filipe, patron saint of the Sumbango community, began on the 31st of March with the pestle used to prepare corn for lunch and, as a general rule, ends on the 11th of May, but this year it will be extended until the 12th of May..
A gala dinner for emigrants is scheduled for Thursday, which should have an average of 50 to 60 emigrants, taking place at the Vip de Terra restaurant in Queimada Guincho and, on Friday, a popular dinner, canizade, popular dance and fireworks.
On Saturday and before the mass, which will be celebrated in the Sumbango chapel, it is planned, right after breakfast, a climb to the Cruz de São Filipe, located on Monte Sumbango, and after the mass, lunch for the guests.
The festival of São Filipe de Sumbango, according to party-goer Casimiro Monteiro, was celebrated on the same date as the festival of São Filipe in the city with the same name, on May 1st.
As it is smaller, it was named “Sanfilipim” (small Saint Philip) and to avoid the coincidence of the date of the celebration, it was decided to celebrate it on May 11th.
According to the partygoer, this year’s celebration began in the United States with a pylon to mobilize funds to support the arrival of artists, highlighting that this year’s party has some sponsorship from emigrants.
On May 13th, it will be the turn of the neighboring town of Fajãzinha to celebrate the festivities of its patron saint Our Lady of Fátima with a series of sporting, cultural and recreational activities, namely athletics competitions in the kids and senior male and female categories.
