Mayor Fábio Vieira, interviewed by Inforpress as part of the visit that the commander of the fire department of the Association of Volunteer Firefighters and municipal coordinator of Civil Protection of Anadia (Portugal) is making to Mosteiros, within the framework of the existing partnership between the two municipalities , to help with the reorganization of services, said that the eight members of the Mosteiros fire department already have an employment relationship with the council and provide services to the municipality for remuneration.
Regarding the visit of the fire brigade commander of the Voluntary Firefighters Association and municipal coordinator of Civil Protection of Anadia, he said that this mission falls within the scope of a twinning agreement that will be established between the two municipalities and the same impacts mainly in surveying the situation and carrying out a diagnosis on the reorganization of the municipal civil protection and fire service, taking into account the existing needs in terms of technical training for civil protection operators and firefighters in Mosteiros.
“We want to have a training plan that meets the needs and expectations of the municipality in terms of civil protection and municipal firefighters”, said Fábio Vieira, noting that since 2020 the city council has started a process of modernizing the municipal civil protection service and firefighters and who, over these three years, has mobilized strategic partnerships to reinforce the conditions of mobility and equipment that allow us to act quickly and in response to catastrophic events that may occur.
In this area, he indicated that the city council obtained two ambulance vehicles from the Association of Volunteer Firefighters of Entroncamento, a municipality also twinned with Mosteiros, and last year another ambulance vehicle in the United States of America from a private company that provides emergency medical services. .
Following the visit, Fábio Vieira said that the parties are making every effort to start, in the month of November, training for civil protection operatives and firefighters from Mosteiros, which implies the arrival of at least four trainers from Anadia to provide training.
The twinning agreement with Anadia includes, in addition to civil protection, the areas of winemaking and oenology and if everything goes as expected, next November, three young people from Mosteiros will travel to Portugal for a professional internship at school of winemaking in Bairrada, municipality of Anadia, aiming to transfer knowledge and experience in the field of winemaking, viticulture and oenology.
“We are analyzing other areas and opportunities for cooperation with Anadia, but at this stage the three areas are identified”, said Fábio Vieira, noting that a proposal for the twinning protocol was drawn up and approved by the Anadia City Council and will be taken to the Municipal Assembly for approval and, once approved, the two parties will work on putting together the logistics for its signature as quickly as possible.
