Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Electricity and Water Company, Electra, invested close to three thousand contos in the modernization of its store in the city of Igreja, in the municipality of Mosteiros, which opens today.
The president of the board of directors (PCA) of Electra, Luís Teixeira, arrived on the island of Fogo on Monday for the inauguration of the aforementioned store, in a ceremony that included the participation of the deputy secretary of state to the prime minister, Lourenço Lopes.
Electra’s PCA said that the Mosteiros store is another that the company will make available to its customers and is part of the store modernization strategy.
“We have invested in digital with online payments and will soon launch a mobile application that allows customers to access invoices, however stores will continue to play a very important role because there is this culture of people going to stores”, said Luís Teixeira.
That is why, he explained, the company intends to modernize the stores to provide greater comfort and joy to customers and it is in this context that the Mosteiros store will open today, which cost around three thousand contos, noting that the company also invested in store in São Filipe with around two thousand contos to make it more beautiful and cheerful.
“We are requalifying all our infrastructures and within the activity plan and budget we are going to requalify the old São Filipe power station and transform it into a store and Electra headquarters on the island of Fogo and, therefore, I will take advantage of the trip to visit the site and talk to the city council about the implementation of this project”, he said.
Regarding energy production on the island of Fogo, Electra’s PCA said that the situation is stable and recalled that the company has invested more than 30 thousand contos in recent times on the island of Fogo because of maintenance, which is “very expensive”.
“We have companies that carry out maintenance, but we need parts and they are very expensive”, said Luís Teixeira, highlighting that the plant has two base groups, one went for maintenance and went well although with some delay and in the second maintenance the company encountered with a situation that was not counting on the acquisition of parts, which took a long time.
Luís Teixeira thus asked the entire population of the island for a “sincere apology” because, he explained, with the situation the company caused some inconvenience, but assured that the situation is stabilized, despite always needing to invest in maintenance.
He also appealed to consumers to pay their bills on time because, according to him, in addition to the challenge of the energy transition there is another greater challenge which is combating losses, theft and fraud which has caused a lot of damage to the company and prevents it from make certain investments.
At the level of the island of Fogo, the theft and fraud situation is around 12 to 13 percent (%), which is a number considered “a little high”, although at a national level the losses are at 24%, a very high number and the company is working to reduce losses to at least 15%.
