Africa-Press – Cape verde. An emigrant from Mosteiros, currently residing in the United States, is promoting the São Filipe festivities by hosting a vocal talent contest in the community of Sumbango, within the municipality of Mosteiros.
The initiative, organized and sponsored by emigrant Casimiro Monteiro, has already completed its first phase and now features five finalists selected from an initial group of eight participants. The grand finale is scheduled for May 2nd in Sumbango, where an even more lively and competitive show is anticipated.
Among the finalists are Liziany Soares, from Corvo—representing Queimada-Trás and the winner of the first phase; Roseny Tavares, from Queimada-Trás—representing Queimada-Guincho and the runner-up; Irlando Alves Fontes, from Corvo—representing the same locality and placing third; Jéssica Teixeira, from Relvas, who took fourth place; and Charles Carlozim Gonçalves, also from Relvas, who secured fifth place.
The organizers will provide approximately 140,000 escudos in prize money, with the first-place winner receiving 50,000 escudos, the runner-up 25,000 escudos, and the third-place finisher 20,000 escudos.
Meanwhile, the fourth and fifth-place finishers will be awarded 10,000 cruzeiros each, and the three participants who did not advance to the final round will receive 7,000 cruzeiros each.
The initiative aims to encourage and celebrate local musical talent while simultaneously enhancing the festive atmosphere of the São Filipe celebrations in Mosteiros—an event also referred to as “Sanfilipin,” as it takes place following the Municipality Day and São Filipe Flag Day festivities, which are traditionally hosted in the city of São Filipe.
