Africa-Press – Cape verde. The MpD argued today that the Government faced periods of great challenges, including the pandemic and severe economic crises, but “showed remarkable resilience”. The party expressed deep appreciation for the “exemplary” management of the prime minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, in the last three years of governance of the 8th Legislature.
In a press release, in response to statements by Ulisses Correia e Silva, made on Monday night, during a press conference to review the three years of governance of the 8th Legislature, the secretary general of the MpD, Luís Carlos Silva, pointed out that the policies implemented allowed not only to protect the population during critical moments, but also to initiate a “robust” process of economic recovery.
“The prime minister’s actions during the interview reflected the sobriety and integrity that are recognized characteristics of his leadership. Ulisses Correia e Silva presented in a clear and detailed way the progress and challenges of our Government, always maintaining transparency and the necessary frontality”.
In the assessment made by the secretary general of the MpD, the Government faced periods of great challenges, but was able to implement policies that allowed the population to be protected during critical moments.
“The results of these policies are remarkable, with a 17% recovery in 2022 and additional growth of 5.1% in 2023, allowing the government to reduce public debt and significantly expand social programs. These initiatives are aligned with the ambitious objective of eliminating extreme poverty by 2026”.
Luís Carlos Silva reinforces that the MpD is aligned and committed to the Government’s objective of restoring and increasing the purchasing power of Cape Verdeans, through adjustments in the wage bill and minimum and average wages, as well as resolving outstanding issues with the classes.
“Our policies ensure that the benefits of economic growth reach people directly. We reiterate our commitment to continue working for the development of Cape Verde, ensuring that the country moves forward with dignity, opportunity and prosperity for all”.
